NOTES:
It is thought that sometime in the spring/summer of 1847 Franklin and Cynthia took their four children and headed into Illinois on their way to Green County, Wisconsin. They probably traveled the route that runs north and slightly west passing through the Chicago area from Kentucky to Clarno, Green County, Wisconsin. They were living in Clarno next door to the Hamilton Miller family when William Hamilton “Tone” BISHOP was born on 8 Nov 1848 and were still living there for the 23 Jul 1850 US Federal Census, even though, in May of 1849 Franklin had made a trip west and slightly north to Fayette County where he staked a claim and began to set up a homestead there according to the History of West Union, Fayette County, Iowa. “Absalom Butler settled here in April, 1849; George Smith, April 22; William Wells, April 23; William Redfield, Franklin Bishop and Stephen Bailey in May; Solomon Bishop (brother to Franklin) and Gabriel Long July 4“) Franklin and Cynthia made their home in Fayette County, Iowa and stayed there until their deaths in 1898 and 1908. According to Google Maps the distance is about 500 miles from Kentucky to Wisconsin and then another 146 miles from Clarno, Wisconsin to West Union, Iowa for a total of 646 miles traveled in primitive conditions.
