Clara Celesta Brown (1860-1905)

This is the ancestry of my 2nd great-grandmother, Clara Celesta BROWN,  beginning with her father, William Henry BROWN.

First Known Generation

1. WILLIAM HENRY¹ BROWN was born in Scrubgrass, Venango, Pennsylvania in 1828 and died in Atchinson County, Kansas, on 28 Feb 1885. He married in Cadiz Township, Green County, Wisconsin, on 17 Mar 1857, MARY ELLEN PARKER/WALLACE.

Witnesses to marriage: Mr. Leander Brown and Mrs. Sarah Brown, possibly parents or siblings?

William Henry was an American Civil War volunteer with Company H, 38th Wisconsin Infantry. He is buried at Pardee Cemetery in Cummings, Atchinson, Kansas.

Children of William Henry and Mary Ellen (Parker/Wallace) Brown:
i.   CLARA CELESTA² BROWN b. in Monroe, Green County, Wisconsin on 17 Jul 1860 and died Salina, Saline County, Kansas on 24 Oct 1905.
ii. WILLIAM E. BROWN b. in Monroe in 1862 d. in  Redlands, San Bernardino, California between 1920 and 1930 [JPC says Oregon].
iii. CHARLES G. BROWN, b. in Monroe on 5 Jul 1872 d. in Atchinson County, Kansas in 1935 and buried in Pardee Cemetery in Cummings, Atchinson, Kansas near his wife Etta (SANDERS) Brown.
iv. CHARLOTTE ESTELLA BROWN “Lottie” b. [JPC says Monroe] Iowa on 28 Apr 1876 d. in Atchinson County, Kansas in 1942 [JPC says died in Nortonville in 1972]; m. Walter ARTHUR, son of Samuel and Sarah ARTHUR of Atchinson County, Kansas.
v. MARY ELIZABETH BROWN, b. in Lincoln, Lincoln, Kansas on 27 Mar 1880 and died in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas.
vi. ALTA MALINDA BROWN, born in Pardee, Atchison, Kansas on 12 Jun 1884 and died in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri after 1957.

Third Generation

2. CLARA CELESTA² BROWN (William Henry², Henry Leander¹), was born in Monroe or Clarno, Green County, Wisconsin on 17 Jul 1860 and died in Lincoln, Lincoln County, Kansas on 24 Oct 1905. She married in Lincoln, Lincoln, Kansas on 10 Mar 1878, WILLIAM HAMILTON “Tone” BISHOP .

Children of William Hamilton and Clara Celeste (Brown) Bishop:
i.   MYRTLE ETHEL BISHOP born in Lincoln County, Kansas on 28 Apr 1888 and died in Kansas on 26 Oct 1918. She married in Lincoln County, Kansas on 10 Mar 1902, CARL WALTZ SHAVER. Carl served in the Spanish American War. Myrtle may have died as the result of the 1918 flue epidemic. They had at least two daughters, Clara and Grace.

ii.  WILLIAM FRANKLIN BISHOP born in Elkhorn or Valley Township, Lincoln County, Kansas on 3 Apr 1881 and died in Lincoln, Lincoln, Kansas on 23 Oct 1957.

iii. CLAUD HAMILTON BISHOP born in Lincoln County, Kansas on 5 Jun 1885 and died in Oregon on 10 Feb 1963. He married in Kansas before Sep 1918, FLOSSIE ELIZABETH _____. They had at least one daughter, Maxine.

iv. DAVID WAYNE BISHOP was born in Lincoln, Lincoln, KS on 26 Dec 1887 died in Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas on 28 Jul 1912. He married in Jackson County, Missouri on 19 Dec 1910, POLLY MAY HAGER. They may have had one daughter, Velma.

v.  HARRY ORUM BISHOP born in Lincoln Center, Lincoln County, Kansas on 2 Nov 1889 died in San Diego, San Diego, California on 29 April 1962 and buried in San Marcos, San Diego County, California. He married in Kansas, ROSETTA PEARL ROBINSON. They had at least two children, Anita born 1915 and David born in 1926.

vi. JENNIE E. BISHOP was born in Lincoln Center, Lincoln, Kansas on 15 Oct 1892 and died in Kansas 13 Jun 1893. She married in Kansas after 1915, LAWRENCE ALBERT BARTLETT. They had at least four children, Ronald, Jean, Wayne and Peggy.
