105th Anniversary of my Grandfather’s Birth!

Today marks the 105th anniversary of the birth of my Grandfather John Prouty Pepper (1908-2008).

Grandpa Pepper was born at home in the Sunnyside neighborhood near Barnard, in Lincoln County, Kansas, on 24 January 1908, and “according to the United States Weather Bureau, it was the warmest January that Kansas ever knew.”

He was the fourth son born to George Warriner and Delia Bridget (Jackson) Pepper and grew up as one of seven children on the Pepper farm near Barnard, Kansas.

I am very thankful for the times I had as a child to get to know my granddad and especially the two weeks I had with him here at my home in June 2007, when I was able to listen to his many stories, and get a DNA sample for Family Tree DNA, which proved our connection to the Scottish immigrant, John Hamilton, born circa 1634 in Scotland!

January 24, 1908 is also the date of the beginning of the Boy Scout Movement started by Robert Baden-Powell.
